Justin Carrington
After graduating from Wakefield High School in Raleigh, NC, I attended NC State as a North Carolina Teaching Fellow from 2008-2011. While at State, I was very active in the Student Media Association, serving as both a staff writer and section editor for the student newspaper, Technician. In my final semester at NC State, I had the outstanding opportunity to return to Wakefield to complete my student teaching. Working under the leadership of an outstanding cooperating teacher, I acquired a solid foundation that would prepare me for the next stage of my career. Upon graduating with a degree in English/Secondary English Education, I was hired at Green Hope High School in Cary, NC, where I currently teach honors and academic sections of English 9/10 and AP English 11. In addition to this, I also advise our school's Speech and Debate Club as well as the Bowling Team.

Days in the Life...
As I gather my wits, I hear my phone on the nightstand blaring loudly, signaling it is time to get out of bed and prepare for the excursions that await. Today, I will take on the place I have been waiting for.
Though it is merely six in the morning, the air already seems to have that signature mugginess that I remember from past days. I immediately make a bee line for the shower. After about an hour of prepping, I join my peers in the diner for a quick bite to eat—everyone needs a little sustenance on days like this.
Before long, we—Amy & I—make our way to the train station, where we meet up with other classmates. As we board the train, I notice the people around me, all of them from different walks of life: old people and young people, business people and everyday people, friendly people and timid people. I notice the different types of dress, the different facial expressions, the different dialects.
After a brief trip on the train, the time came to navigate the Tube…and…the people. No matter where I look, I am surrounded by people, standing, kneeling, sitting, squatting. People to my right, people to my left. Merely standing seemed to be a task. Personal space completely invaded, all I can think of is the opportunity to escape this inferno. I can only think of the moment I will exit and be able to roam freely among the masses on the sidewalks and not be confined to this metal box traveling at ridiculous speeds.
Sooner than later, the time to exit this sardine can arrives and after scaling multiple flights of stairs, I see what I have been waiting for: the wonderful city.
