Colleen Walsh
Hello everyone!
I am originally from Wisconsin and moved to North Carolina in 1990. I was brought to NC through a history internship opportunity in Winston Salem, met the guy I later married, and then stuck around. I spent many happy years working in museums and historic sites before succumbing to my ardent desire to learn how to sing. After auditioning at UNC Greensboro, I was accepted into the music education program, and graduated in 2003. And, yup, I learned how to sing.
So, now I have been the music teacher at Alexander Wilson Elementary in Graham, NC for the past ten years. No one knows where Graham is, but if you head west from Raleigh along I-40 you will be in Graham an hour later. I hang out there with my little cat and my husband Frank when he is not called to active duty in the US Navy, which he frequently is these days.
I am a person who likes to be active, but as I get older my body is not as co-operative as it used to be. Either walking, bicycling, or kayaking are usually on my daily agenda as is singing and messing about on the piano and guitar. Lately, I have also become involved in local musical theater and had a great deal of fun performing in the "Music Man" this past spring. "Fiddler on the Roof" is next on my list when we return from England.
For entertainment I tend to turn to British literature or British TV dramas, and I must admit, was heartily disappointed when I found out we were not going to Highclere Castle after all, being a fan of Downton Abbey. I am recovering from this disappointment, however, and look forward to experiencing the treasures of England with all of you!
